Guanacaste History

The Region of Guanacaste is surrounded by two mountain ranges. The Mountain range of Tilaran and that of Guanacaste both provide a splendid and sharp mountainous area, being one of the most beautiful and roomy countryside’s in the country. You can basically visit Guanacaste during the whole year; since both, the dry station and the humid station, they provide the area of spectacular advantages.

The dry station provides to the visitors of the beaches, abundant sun for a nonpareil suntan, while the humid station makes that the trees flourish with an explosion of aromas and colors. The mountains turn like a brilliant green carpet.

Guanacaste is known by its livestock ranches, the visitors will see many homes surrounded by green fields and cows pasturing. Many of these houses have gone by generations of native Guanacaste people. This zone is also rich in variety of places to visit. Such as volcano’s, national parks, beaches, caverns, places that give a perfect welcome to the tourist.

If you like snorkeling and some time in the sun,Bahia Culebra is the option; a small bay that is located to the north of the small city of El Coco. There is a without number of beautiful beaches waiting to be explored. Local Tour Operators offer snorkeling and diving trips, sailing at dusk and fishing trips to the most hidden corners. There are also many small towns to visit if you are behind the steering wheel and are looking for a beach to pass a couple of days. The towns of Samara and Nosara have hotels for all budget types as well as fabulous beaches. So many beautiful beaches up and down the coast, Playa Barrigona offers you what many beaches would like to have. Its white sand and its tranquil landscape make you feel part of the environment if only being for one day. When you find one of these paradisiacal places you should go prepared with an icebox with refreshments, something to eat and you made your day.

Those interested in seeing one of those events once in a lifetime; that of Playa Ostional is the point of arrival of the green turtle or “Lora “as it is called by the local people. If you visit the area any time between July and December; you will be surrounded by hundreds of turtles that find their way toward the beach to carry out their spawning. The best way to see this natural spectacle is with a guide. There are many in the area and most of the hotels can guide you in the right direction to find them.
